John Creaven Class Description and Bio

John Creaven is from Menlo, a small village just outside Galway City in the west of Ireland. He now lives with his wife and family in Pearl River, New York. He has been playing traditional Irish music on flute since the early 1980’s starting on the tin whistle in the 1970’s. During the 1990’s he studied at Queen’s University in Belfast. While living in Belfast, he played in many sessions with local musicians. He has released one solo CD which has been well received by fans of traditional Irish music. His playing has been influenced by playing with local musicians in Galway and Belfast.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Teaching will be by ear at a slow to moderate pace in a friendly and fun atmosphere. The class will concentrate on improving tone, technique and phrasing for students who have progressed from the beginner stage. Reels, Jigs, hornpipes and other dance tunes will be covered along with a discussion of the tunes. Any particular requests from students will be welcomed during the class. A flute in the key of D will be needed for the class. A recording device is optional.
